Japan Trip – Nagasaki

Good day in Nagasaki. We got around walking and taking the tram today. We stopped at Spectacles Bridge, a shopping arcade and lunch before hitting the Atomic Bomb Museum. The museum was heartbreaking with lots of artifacts, information, videos and photographs. We visited the epicentre, the remains of the church and the Peace park. We walked over to the one legged Torii gate. It’s located about 800 meters from the blast’s hypocenter, one of its pillars was knocked down by the shockwave, leaving the gate standing on a single leg. It stands as a powerful symbol of resilience and survival. We went up the Mt. Inasa cable car (they call it a ropeway) for beautiful views of the city. Our last stop was the Confucius Shrine. It was built in 1893 by Nagasaki’s chinese community. There are 72 life-size stone statues of his disciples in the courtyard.
